Dark Humor: Kim-Jong-Tele

Probably one of the most enjoyable paintings i've ever done, this assignment was for my Dark Humor class at CCS. The objective was to paint a traditional portrait of an infamous political figure but paint them in a way that makes fun of them and their flaws. I chose Kim-Jung-Il the previous dictator of North Korea before his son Kim-Jong-Un took over after he died. North Korea is a strange place and every leader has a cult of personality following their triumphs. The stories about Kim-Jung are all "true" says the North Korean government, but to any person who isn't completely oblivious to the line between fake and reality knows that any stories about the Great Leader are remarkably false. So I dedicate this painting to you Great Leader, your life was as amazing as any episode of the Teletubbies. May your soul live on through this painting.
Acrylic on gessoed masonite board. 24x30"
The initial sketch for the painting. I scanned and resized the drawing for transfer onto the masonite board.

A portrait of infamy: Kim-Jong-Il, a late dictator of North Korea who's life was as fantasized as a teletubby.
